aleksandar che di professione fa l’atleta professionista (good-job-man) e insieme al sottoscritto condivide l’avventura del triathlon team, prenderà parte all’asia pacific ironman 70.3 di laguna phuket.

in foto lo vediamo all’arrivo del triathlon olimpico dello scorso fine settimana.

è giunto 5. assoluto e ha bucato. dopo la gara di prova, ora lo attendiamo domenica, con un po’ più di fortuna…

settimana scorsa, mentre ero a copenhagen per la maratona,

ho finalmente conosciuto aleksandar.

e l’ho battuto a braccio di ferro.

mi piace aleksandar, guardo spesso il suo blog e ho scoperto che lui guarda il mio.

io non capisco il danese e lui non sa l’italiano.

però ci piace guardare e intuire cosa c’è scritto.

comunichiamo in inglese e abbiamo diverse cose in comune.

anche lui, per esempio, era un insegnante.

io lo sono ancora

dal no logo al logo. sto trascorrendo un periodo in cui rifletto, spesso con dubbi e perplessità, sul senso di alcuni…

brand conosciuti a livello mondiale.

a questo proposito ho chiesto un parere a nikola tosic che lavora in questo campo da oltre un decennio.

cosa pensi del brand e del cibo del mc donald’s?

mcdonalds i think is the world biggest restaurant chain and i take a lot of inspiration from that. if its not id like to know who is bigger but still its so huge. i first at in mcdonalds when i visited australia when i was a kid. this is when i got my first skateboard and a hoodie. we did not have these in serbia at that time (think second half of 80s). i grew up in a world where a red shirt was a red shirt, and not nike or adidas red shirt. we travelled a lot but i never thought about brands, some of my first contacts with brands was with mcdonalds in australia. our relatives there kept being obsessed with the brands like mcdonalds. they would not say – lets go to a restaurant but lets go to mcdonalds. lets eat this and that brand. stuff had names like big mac. it was very interesting. when i was a kid it was very interesting this whole mcdonalds space, toys, food.

it still is.

i eat mcdonalds regularly, maybe few times a month. depends. in south africa i eat it once a month, in serbia more often. i hope this is safe. clearly that food is poison but its tasty and strange. its very primitive, you eat with your hands, its like a place where people it in a factory, everything is quite bad style, plastic, cheap… but its human. it should be embraced as such.

i like to eat in mcdonalds restaurants in different countries. in milano its mostly for immigrants (like i was). in denmark its super dirty and staff is cute rude. in serbia its great service and they try really hard. in south africa its a minor brand, africans are more into local fast food and kfc.

mcdonalds is also a serbian thing. the world’s biggest mcdonalds and most profitable mcdonalds were in belgrade (russians are number one now). i think serbs manage mcdonalds for several countries cause of their success in serbia.

i also like that smoking is always forbidden in mcdonalds.

cosa pensi del brand e della bevanda coca-cola?

old school brand. they are not so good with internet but they have a century of marketing behind them so they can afford to be bad at something.

as a drink its great. theres something about it which helps dehydration. its amazing. and for races its best.

but its clearly something which has to be controlled. its very strong. caffeine is super strong and in combination with the sugar its a bomb. i try to drink maybe 500ml when i cycle 2-3 times a week and thats it. or i drink it when i am very very tired and i need a lift. other than that it is very dangerous and strong.

cosa pensi del brand e dei mobili ikea?

ah not much, i do not have much contact with them. my milano apartment is all in ikea and i have some ikea in serbia but i do not have a relationship with this brand. its ok. i do not like that i have to put it together, i hate that.

cosa pensi del marchio del triathlon team nel panorama internazionale?

im frustarted cause id like we do much more. its quite unknown and small especially considering the work which is invested. problem is that the audience does not react well to self-brands and what i call ME ME ME branding. if you start with a brand which is your name first athletes are too shy to promote that cause they are naturally introvert and second its not really top content unless you are madonna or brad pitt. what i tried with you and aleksandar is a bit more interesting – having a brand which is not your name – but we are not doing that properly either, its not as it should be, its just a strange mix of ME ME ME and something else. theres nothing wrong with ME ME ME branding, its good and effective, but has its limitations.

i wish more of our work is turned towards social change and actual business. these are two things which need to be added. more products to sell (for now its mostly sponsorship space and a bit of coaching which is not good) and more charity and health stuff (we have done none!). i would like to see that triathlon team inspires a lot of people to start triathlon. we have an audience of people who have no clue what triathlon is but like the websites and brands. it would be great if they give triathlon a try. just a local sprint with only few hours of training a week. the whole thing about swimming cycling and running is that its fun and healthy and sport is actually well organized, there are races everywhere and it does not have to be expensive or elitist.

triathlon team just had one year of getting into the work, so its normal its far from something concrete, we shall see what happens in
next few years.

superman o mickey mouse? perché?

i prefer superman movies, i was never really into mickey mouse. i like the visual of mickey mouse but cartoons i do not watch so much. i kind of saw superman movies many more times than i saw mickey mouse stuff. mickey mouse does not really have anything new for decades now while superman keeps being refreshed through series and cartoons.

mickey mouse is more of a toy you get in mcdonalds (first toy i got in mcdonalds in australia was donald duck actually) or on a tshirt, but not really something you can go and see in a cinema or on tv today. everybody would be surprised if there was mickey mouse movie. but superman is more present in our daily lives.
