sudafrica, restando in tema, ho il piacere di pubblicare le risposte del mitico conrad stoltz.

in europe people is crazy about soccer world championship. how is the atmosphere in SA about this event?

The radio and TV is really blowing thing up and promoting the soccer like crazy. A few months ago we thought the event will be the hugest thing, radically changing the country and the people but with slow ticket sales, it seems like a lot of people have been over optimistic in terms of the amount of visitors the World Cup will attract. However, I am impressed with the way the infrastructure around the country has been upgraded- wider roads, bus lanes, new airports, etc.

are you going to follow the event?

No, I’ll be in the US racing, unfortunately. I dont think there will be much soccer coverage in the US.

except SA who are you going to cheer?

Brazil.

who will win the champs?

Dont care.

is there any football player you like?

You mean:” Is there any football player you know?” Yes, I know David Beckham (he married Porshe Spice) and Diego Maradona. Who put his soccer fortune up his nose. There is also a guy called “Toti“. “Little Penis” in Afrikaans…

a poche settimane dall’inizio dei campionati del mondo di calcio, gli ho posto alcune domande in merito allo sport più seguito nel vecchio continente.

1. in europe people is crazy about soccer world championship. how is the atmosphere in SA about this event?
Its mentioned as part of daily conversation now. 83 days, 82 days. Football has become an interest for many who have never taken to the game. Its beyond football though, and so much expectation hangs in the air. Huge infrastructure is now complete, not just the stadiums, but airports, highways, trains, bus routes. So we’ve been effected in so many positives ways.

I think the timing has been unfortunate, with the recession globally. Many of the Official Fifa sponsors have not activated as much world wide, as would have been the case with 2006. But despite that, I think it has put South Africa in the spotlight.

2. are you going to follow the event?
I will, but more from a socio aspect – the people, local and foreign, the atmosphere, the impact, the personal side to it. I am not very into which team with win, or do better or worse. I hope Bafana Bafana will play beyond expectation, but I imagine my support will drift to another African nation, one of the Puma teams perhaps.

3. except SA who are you going to cheer?
Other than the African nations, I have a connection with Brazil, again having just been there last weekend. I love their culture and people, and some loyalty will be to them.

4. who will win the champs?
No, no idea really. Be guessing. Heard a man put an incredible bet on USA. Odds were sensational. Imagine an outside team came good like that?

5. is there any football player you like?
Maradona. Old, but an inspiration all the same. Incredible what he is doing beyond his professional career. He has been able to go beyond football and change the lives of many.

Fraser Cartmell ha vinto l’Ironman 70.3 del Sudafrica.

Per lui, dopo aver passato un 2009 con qualche acciacco, questa vittoria è molto importante.

Una curiosità: entrambe le vittorie sono avvenute nella terra dove si svolgeranno gli imminenti Campionati del mondo di calcio.

Dan Hugo del Triathlon Team è una bestia! Questo…

è quanto mi è stato riferito da chi l’ha conosciuto e si è allenato con lui.

Ma basta vedere le sue foto o i suoi video per rendersi conto.

Dan ha iniziato l’anno nel migliore dei modi vincendo il Total Sport Challenge una prova di ben 7 discipline!

Inoltre il design del suo race kit della Luma Sports è stato ideato dal giovane artista olandese Rafeal Rozendaal.

Per darvi un’idea Rozendaal ha più di 1’000’000 di visite al mese nel suo sito

Il trend di abbinare estetica e design con lo sport di endurance l’aveva lanciato Conrand ai mondiali XTERRA dello scorso ottobre con la tenuta griffata Miltos Manetas.

Conrad non ha vinto il quarto titolo mondiale…

al Campionato del mondo di XTERRA. È giunto 5.

Senza dubbio però aveva la tenuta da gara più originale del pianeta.

Il design l’ha creato Miltos Manetas ispirandosi a Jackson Pollock.

Sono convinto che questa operazione tra arte e sport, estetica e prestazione atletica, farà tendenza.

Sono pure convinto che qualche disegno cosmico non abbia voluto che Conrad vincesse senza la presenza del nostro Dan.

Rimandiamo il duello per il titolo al 2010.

Inoltre dal 2010 avremo, finalmente (!), due ragazze nel team: Lisa Nordén che si ritrova a duellare con Zlatan Ibrahimovic per aggiudicarsi un concorso svedese che immagino sia un mix tra simpatia, popolarità, bellezza, intelligenza e qualità sportiva. E Lesley Patterson che ai mondiali di XTERRA è giunta addirittura seconda!

Il fine settimana di fuoco si è concluso con la prestazione di Fraser Cartmell, giunto 11.esimo all’Ironman 70.3 di Austin.

È tardisssimo! Gli ultimi pensieri sportivi prima di andare a letto…

sono rivolti alla vittoria di Super Ronnie Schildknecht e Sibylle Matter all’Ironman di Zurigo, ma soprattutto al primo atleta ticinese sotto le 9 ore: Nicolas Beyeler 13.esimo assoluto in 8h54min!

Oltre a lui grande prestazione pure di Barbara Guglielmetti 11.esima tra le donne in 9h53!

Caspita questi atleti ticinesi non li ferma più nessuno

Sempre in ambito internazionale il nostro Will è giunto 7. a Kitzbühel mentre Conrad e Dan si sono piazzati 3. e rispettivamente 5. al Vermont XTERRA.

Di tutto questo la cosa che più mi piace è l’immagine di Will elaborata da Nikola e pubblicata qui.
